Department Aim
- To provide enjoyment and stimulate a lasting interest in History
- To develop a better understanding of contemporary society by comparing past societies and their values with the present; studying contemporary problems in their historical setting.
- To introduce pupils to their cultural heritage (local, national and international).
- To provide a framework for reinforcing and developing basic skills.
- To provide a disciplined method of study, be encouraging the use of evidence, and an awareness of the need for evidence.
- To develop a tolerant but critical attitude of mind, by the study of societies which are removed in time and place from our own.
- To provide an understanding of human development in the perspective of time, including an awareness of –
* Change and continuity;
* Cause and consequence;
* The influence of the environment in shaping human development;
* The impact of change on individuals and societies.
At Saint Roch's we study a variety of different periods of history in order to give the pupils a wider understanding of historical events.
